In which city did you take your first private session with Bettina May?
The city where people give a fuck, NYC!!!!
What made you decide to do the photoshoot?
I had a private photo-shoot and it was delicious. I decided to do this as a wedding gift for my then fiancé now husman. I have seen Bettina perform numerous times and have always been in burlesque awe of her. Then, I saw her name on a photo of ‘Tansy’ (she's the performer with milky white skin and jet black hair), and I went to Bettina’s website and saw all of the services she offered. I think vintage pin-up photography, clothing, hair etc is so sexy and empowering (and it gets my husman boned-up) so I thought….why the hell not. I’d been doing P90X for 2 months and I was feeling great about myself! So, it was an easy decision 😉
Did you have any previous experience with a vintage look, or was this a brand new experience for you?
This was brand new to me. I’ve followed a lot of looks and the style, but never did it for myself.
Did you go on to pursue more photoshoots, or take another class with Bettina?
Sadly, no, but I would like to. But I thought it would be mega dope to be her Sherpa on her tour!
How have your new pin-up skills been put to use in other ways?
Ummmmm…….spicing it up in the boudoir.
How do you feel your life has changed since this experience?
Well, I’ve never had an issue with confidence, but seeing the look on my husmans face when he saw the pictures…made me damn happy and proud of myself. So, taking the plunge to step outside of my comfort zone was a change for me.
What would you want to tell other people who want to try something new with their life but aren‘t confident enough to take the plunge?
JUST. DO. IT!!! I moved CLEAR across the country from NYC to Seattle without family or friends, JUST to try something new. And you know what, it’s a big sucky fail! We hate it here, but we tried. You will never know what it’s like on the other side of the river, unless you roll up your pants legs and cross the river, one step at a time. And so what if you fail….it’s not permanent. You can always go back to where you came from. And when you do, you’ll be wiser, stronger and better for it.
Anything else you want to add?
I’ve never felt more beautiful and comfortable in my glamazonian body than I did with Bettina.
